COVID-19 Information

The South Heidelberg Township Board of Supervisors has taken necessary measures in response to the ever-changing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.  Below is a comprehensive listing of information relating to COVID-19 and operation of the Township during this pandemic.  

Governor Wolf:  Berks County Issued Stay at Home Order (NEW)

Governor Tom Wolf issued a revised "Stay at Home" order which expanded the number of counties to include Berks County.  The expanded order instructs individuals to only leave their residence to perform allowable individual activities and essential travel.   The order takes effect at 8:00 PM Friday March 27, 2020 and will continue until April 6, 2020.  

South Heidelberg Township Declaration of Disaster Emergency (NEW)

The Board of Supervisors at its March 24, 2020 Board of Supervisors Meeting approved a Declaration of Disaster Emergency.  The emergency declaration allows South Heidelberg Township to quickly institute actions in response to emergency needs that may arise relating to the COVID-19.  The emergency declaration will remain in place until emergency management officials deem the emergency declaration can be lifted as the Township will follow advisement of county, state and federal emergency management officials.

Governor Wolf Non-Essential Business Closure Order

On March 19, 2020, Governor Wolf initiated an order to close all non-life sustaining businesses starting on Monday March 23, 2020 at 8:00AM.   Below is information relating to that order:

Support for Children/Senior Citizens

The following services are available in the community for children and senior citizens:

Conrad Weiser Student Breakfast/Lunch Program.  The Conrad Weiser School District is providing free lunches to Conrad Weiser Students Monday through Friday.  Breakfast and Lunch can be picked up at Conrad Weiser West Elementary School located 102 South 3rd Street Womelsdorf PA 19567.  The student must be present at pickup in order to receive breakfast or lunch.

Senior Citizen Programs.  Berks Encore provides various programs includes Meals on Wheels, Grocery Shopping and Emergency Boxes to Seniors.  If you or a Senior Citizen you know needs assistance they can contact Berks Encore at 610-374-3195.  In addition if you would like to volunteer to help Berks Encore deliver or pack meals and emergency boxes please contact Rita Phillips at 610-374-3195 ext 225 or by email at rphillips@berksencore.org.

Township Municipal Facilities

The Township building (555A Mountain Home Road, Sinking Spring PA, 19608) will be closed to the public until further notice. Township staff is available via phone or report a concern from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday.  Contact Information for the Township is as follows:

Township Playground Facilities

Township playgrounds are also closed for use until further notice.  The Township cannot maintain/sterilize playground equipment routinely enough to ensure the safety and health of children playing on that equipment.  In collaboration with federal and state guidelines the Township strongly encourages social distancing including for children which is the reason for the playground closures.   In addition some helpful resources available for parents:

Below is information regarding various Township meetings:

Notice is hereby given, that in order to insure the public safety during the COVID-19 crisis, the monthly meetings of South Heidelberg Township Boards and Commissions will be held by audio conferencing until further notice. The public is invited to phone in to the virtual meeting. Public comment will be taken by email during and before the meeting or by phone during the public comment portion of the meeting. Details on how to phone in to the meeting along with instructions for emailing public comments will be posted on the South Heidelberg Township website at www.shtwp.org. Township Events

Below is information regarding various upcoming Township events:

Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for April 4, 2020.   The Easter Egg Hunt has been cancelled.  The Recreation Board has organized Easter Activities which can be found by going to the Recreational Events Page.  

The Great South Heidelberg Township Clean-Up scheduled for April 24, 2020.  The Clean-Up event is still scheduled  however a cancellation or change to the event will be announced based on further developments relating to COVID-19.  

Tax Collection

Township Tax payments will continue to be collected and processes.  Tax payments can be made by mail. Tax payments should be sent to:

Permits will not be issued during the Governor’s order unless a waiver has been granted and submitted to the Township.  You may still submit permits to Kraft by using one of the above methods.
