South Heidelberg Township PD Conducts DUI Check Point

South Heidelberg Township, PA - On Friday night, the 30th of August, 2019 Berks County Police Departments from the North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the 6200 block of Penn Avenue in South Heidelberg Township.

Officers from the South Heidelberg Township Police Department were assisted by Officers from Exeter, Muhlenberg, Spring Township, Shillington, Sinking Spring, Northern Berks Regional, and Lower Heidelberg Police Departments, as well as Deputies from the Berks County Sheriff’s office, and Fire Police and personnel from Robesonia and Western Berks Fire Department.

A total of 550 vehicles were stopped at the Checkpoint.

  • 2 People were arrested for possession of narcotics.
  • 5 Drivers arrested for DUI (2 for alcohol, 2 for drugs, and 1 driver who was under the combined influence of both drugs and alcohol).
  • 14 traffic citations were issued for various traffic violations, and another 2 drivers were given written warnings.  2 of the traffic violations were for children not using car seats, and 2 were for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

DUI deterrence operations are funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and National Traffic Safety Administration.
