South Heidelberg Township, PA - The South Heidelberg Township Police Department is extremely proud and excited to announce that Michael Fizz and Maura McMahon have been hired as Police Officers with the Department. The hiring of Corporal Fizz and Officer McMahon culminates an extensive 3-month search for professional and experienced Officers to assist the growing Department and will be welcome additions to the Department to assist with our Mission of providing the highest quality law enforcement services available anywhere.
Corporal Michael Michael Fizz Biography
Corporal Michael Fizz comes to South Heidelberg Township with a wealth of experience gained while working as a Police Officer for the City of Reading for over 20 years. During his time spent with the Reading Police Department, he rose to the rank of Sergeant, and has experience with crash reconstruction, arson investigations, and numerous firearms instructor certifications. Corporal Fizz received numerous commendations while serving with Reading P.D., including saving a girl stranded in the Schuylkill River, apprehending 2-armed robbery suspects, stopping an armed kidnapping, and talking a person down from jumping off the Penn Street Bridge. Upon leaving the Reading Police Department in 2011, Corporal Fizz worked for the Berks County Coroner’s office from 2011 to 2018, and gained invaluable experience with death investigations. During his time with the Coroner’s office he quickly rose to the rank of Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner where he supervised all Deputy investigators on Death Investigations. Corporal Fizz, his Wife Shelly, and two children reside in South Heidelberg Township, and are extremely active in the Conrad Weiser community. Corporal Fizz is extremely excited to get back into Police work and begin serving the Citizens of the community that he calls home.

Officer Maura McMahon Biography
Officer Maura McMahon is our newest addition to the patrol division of the South Heidelberg Township Police Department. Maura was working full time as a Chester County Sheriff’s Deputy, and part-time as a Police Officer with the Western Berks Police Department. She is a graduate of James Madison University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 2013. Officer McMahon believes in being involved in her community and has volunteered for an environmental beach clean-up, a student run “safe ride” program at James Madison, and a program to assist with the prosecution statistics at a child advocacy center in East Norriton, PA. Maura is an avid competitive distance runner and during her time at James Madison, she was a member of the Club Cross Country and track team during her 4 years there. She has been the female winner in numerous local 5k runs and has served as the Girls Cross Country and Track Coach for Merion Mercy Academy for 4 years. Officer McMahon has already made a positive impact with the Police Department by volunteering at our “Shop with a Cop” event, and greeting the elementary students at Conrad Weiser East as they arrive for their school day. She will undoubtedly be a big asset to our department and the Conrad Weiser Community.
